General Description:
The Registered Nurse is
responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and
evaluating the delivery of highly skilled specialized patient care
using the nursing process. Directly accountable and responsible to
the patient for the quality of nursing care rendered, the gastroenterology
RN collaborates with team members and patients in the planning and
provision of this care.
Distinguishing Features:
This position requires
specialized knowledge and skills based upon biological, physiological,
behavioral and sociological sciences. This position uses critical
thinking skills in making decisions regarding patient care. This demonstrates
technical skill, initiative, integrity, accuracy and good judgement.
This position's role as a patient advocate is reflected in her/his
actions and behaviors. Responsibilities are performed in a manner
that demonstrates support of Digestive Health Specialists consultants
goals and objectives and are in compliance with all policies and procedures
and the Standards of Nursing Care.
Position Responsibilities:
Provides direct and indirect
skilled patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment,
planning, implementation and evaluation.
Provides pre-and post-procedure
teaching, discharge planning and identifies need for follow up services.
Maintains clinical competency
with current knowledge of technology, procedures and practices specific
to the Endoscopy Unit. Performance in assisting the clinic physician
with procedures reflects this clinical competency.
Establishes and maintains
professional relationships with patient care providers, management
and physicians.
Competently assesses and
evaluates the recovering patient, summarizing the patient's status.
Demonstrates understanding
of sedation agents, their effects and recognized associated problems.
Attends staff meetings.
Actively participates in monitoring of continuous quality improvements,
measures and standards.
Maintains licensure and
required certification.
Contributes to the success
of the organization by offering her/his services wherever and whenever
necessary to insure the success of the organization.
